Arriving late at the venue (due to a clueless taxi driver attempting to drop me off in Kings Cross, despite much protestation on my part) I was slightly turned off that Concave had pulled out last minute, although it did mean that openers Grayscale got to go on later and steal some of their crowd. This is a golden opportunity for bands and it seemed to work out well for the night.
STARSOUP – BAZAAR OF WONDERS Clawhammer PR -- Running Time - 56:28
“Bazaar of Wonders” is a studio project from Russian experimentalists, Starsoup, this is definitely a spit balling session of ideas, some of which they pull off very well and some leave a fair bit to be desired.
This album is set into 3 parts for me. The opening tracks “Angels” and “Ain’t no...
NIGHT OF BRUTALITY 9 (LIVE REVIEW) November 29th 2013 - The Boston Arms Music Room – Tufnell Park, London
Plague Promotion’s Nights of Brutality are one of the finest examples of live death core I’ve found in the capital. Tonight was the 9th instalment, featuring Bound by Exile, Acrania and Black tongue as headliners. An unassuming flier written in blue sharpie and stuck to the smoking area...
NIGROMANTE – BLACK MAGIC NIGHT (2013) Shadow Kingdom Records/Clawhammer PR -- Running Time: 33:34
Spanish titans Nigromante have a lot to offer us in their new album “Black Magic Night”, a mix of brutal vocals and thundering guitars remind us of early Iron Maiden but with a thick layer of crash cymbals thrown in they put their own stamp on heavy metal.
Born Of Osiris – Tomorrow We Die ∆live Sumerian Records -- Running time: 30:53
Born of Osiris is a relatively new band from Chicago whose previous efforts "A Higher Place" and "The Discovery" both broke into the lower half of the Billboard 100 with a burgeoning promise to wave the flag of new progressive American metal.
Fortunately these guys hit their highest chart yet on the Billboard...
THE GARDNERZ (Sweden) "It All Fades" CD EP (Doom / Death Metal) Abyss Records -- Running time: 35:57
A follow up to their full length album "The System of Nature", "It All Fades EP" introduces a new drummer into the fold with the usual suspects from System. It's a solid effort from these South Norwegians second release on Abyss Records. Really marketed as Doom but they really transcend...
Dead Awaken hailing from the frigid wasteland of Sweden, the frozen oasis of hatred, offer up another apocalyptic march chocked full of brutal breakdowns and blast beats.
Dead Awaken wastes no time with the blistering opening riff of "Carnivore", a crushing effort from this Swedish bands' groove laden crunch fest with drum fills that sound like tanks raining down in a monsoon of hatred. The whirlwind guitars are textbook death metal riffs, nothing...
Centurian Contra Rationem 28th January 2013 Listenable Records
In the years between 1997 and 2002, Centurian pioneered the second wave of Death Metal amongst acts like Krisiun and Angelcorpse. The band played throughout the U.S. and Europe, which granted them with a great underground fan-base and a great reputation due to their persistent songwriting and harsh approach to music. And now with the release of Contra Rationem I must say that Centurian is back, and very furiously,...
