Wizz Acoustic - Rock Lives On EP (2014)
Rocksector Records -- Running Time 19:03

SCORE
8/10

If you've never heard of the traditional Metal and Hard Rock of Belgium based band Wizz Wizzard, then you really should, because they are very good at what they do! Thanks to a 'light bulb' moment from Rocksector Records boss Mark Appleton, he suggested that their lead vocalist Wizz (a well known former pirate DJ, musician and organiser of Wizzfest in his home country) should travel to the UK to perform a showcase acoustic gig at Rocksector's own SOS Festival in Manchester. That gig was met with very positive comments and has led to further acoustic appearances and this new six track EP 'Rock Lives On'.

I listen to so much Rock and Metal music that sometimes you just need to chill out, relax and put something less intense on the stereo and I now have the perfect CD to do just that. Production is full and lush but these songs, all written by Wizz, are proper acoustic numbers. It's just him singing and playing the guitar, alongside his friend (and number one candidate for hardest working musician currently in the UK) Chris Appleton, vocalist and guitarist with Absolva. No soloing, no histrionics, just six simple, but beautiful songs. If Bob Dylan could actually sing this is probably what he would come up with and I'm also reminded of Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) and Uriah Heep in places. Wizz has a more than acceptable voice for acoustic numbers. He sings with passion, soul and you can hear every word which is a joy to listen to. There are no stand out tracks because they are all great but there is a video of the title track you can watch (see links below) and the EP is another excellent addition to the very talented roster at Rocksector Records!

I'd also like to mention that Wizz, unfortunately, suffered a heart attack very recently. He is on the mend which is wonderful to hear and I and everyone at Brutiful Metal Radio would like to wish him all the very best and a full & speedy recovery!
